FAQ:
How long does it take to transition between Full-Service and Self-Service?
Switching modes is simple. The bioptic scanner and scale sit on a rotating base that pulls out and turns 180 degrees to face the customer or the cashier. The sliding POS stand moves forward or backward to match the mode. The whole change takes about a minute.
Why would a Convertible Lane be beneficial for my store?
With tight labor markets straining front-end staffing, one Convertible Lane flexes to fit your traffic. Run it in self-service mode during slower hours, then switch it to full-service with a cashier when lines build. You flex labor up and down as needed and keep all lanes open at all times.
Who invented the Convertible Lane?
Pan-Oston did. We built the first true Convertible Lane and rolled it out across Sam's Club locations in 2011, which makes 2026 the fifteenth anniversary since Convertible Lanes hit the market. Fifteen years and more than 5,500 units later, we are still the team refining what the lane can do.
